About the Customer
Destek Yatırım, established in 2024 as a fully owned subsidiary of Destek Bank, is a financial services company operating as a fully authorized brokerage firm. The company aims to provide high-quality and uninterrupted investment services to its clients, leveraging the latest technologies to make financial markets more accessible and efficient.
Customer Challenge
Destek Yatırım was operating a VMware-based infrastructure spread across three different data centers, hosting a total of approximately 90+ mixed Windows and Linux servers. Managing such a large and heterogeneous server fleet posed serious challenges for the IT team in terms of performance tuning, monitoring, and cost optimization.
This multi-datacenter architecture created several challenges, including limited visibility, inefficient resource utilization, complex network configurations, and increased operational overhead. Planning capacity, ensuring high availability, and optimizing costs were manual processes that consumed valuable engineering time. If left unaddressed, these issues posed a risk of increased downtime, higher IT costs, and limited scalability for future business growth.
Partner Solution
Onkatec proposed a seamless migration to AWS using a lift-and-shift approach via AWS Application Migration Service, with minimal changes to the existing application topology. The entire VMware-based environment was migrated to Amazon EC2, ensuring continuity and consistency while unlocking the benefits of a modern, cloud-based infrastructure.
A secure and scalable Amazon VPC was designed to reflect the customer’s multi-site structure, incorporating subnet segmentation and routing tailored to each workload. Auto Scaling Groups (ASG) were deployed to enable elastic scaling based on demand, improving performance during peak hours and reducing unnecessary costs during low traffic periods.
Amazon CloudWatch was integrated to provide real-time performance monitoring and alerting, while EC2 Compute Optimizer was used to continuously evaluate and optimize instance types and sizing based on actual usage metrics. Secure site-to-site VPNconnections were established between AWS and the customer’s on-premises data centers, ensuring a smooth hybrid architecture and seamless operations throughout the migration process.
Onkatec provided full lifecycle support, including pre-migration assessments, implementation, testing, and post-migration optimization. The approach ensured operational continuity and minimized disruption to the business.
Results and Benefits
Following the migration, Destek Yatırım significantly improved visibility, scalability, and manageability of its infrastructure. By leveraging CloudWatch and Compute Optimizer, the customer was able to reduce resource overprovisioning and improve instance efficiency by up to 30%.
Operational overhead was dramatically reduced thanks to centralized monitoring and automated scaling. Incident response times decreased by approximately 40%, and the IT team could shift focus from maintenance tasks to strategic initiatives.
With secure and reliable connectivity in place, and a more agile infrastructure, Destek Yatırım positioned itself for future growth while optimizing current operational costs. The new environment improved system resilience, simplified management, and ensured high performance for business-critical workloads.
