Customer Challenge
At first, Pricing Coach ran on a legacy infrastructure comprised of dispersed, independently managed servers. This led to numerous operational and security risks. Insufficient utilization and inconsistent tracking of computing resources led to inefficiencies and increased operational costs.
Server-based database management systems lacked scalability and disaster recovery capabilities, and there was no formal backup strategy. Furthermore, the absence of a centralized monitoring system for compute and storage resources made performance analysis and troubleshooting time lengthy and left the system prone to errors.
The increasing demand for secure, scalable, and protocol-based traffic management also presented challenges at the network layer. However, without a proper load balancing mechanism or a modern VPC architecture, application reliability and user experience were at risk. If these challenges were not addressed, customers would face increased security threats, operational inefficiencies, higher infrastructure costs, and difficulties scaling their services across regions.
Partner Solution
In collaboration with Onkatec and Pricing Coach, an approach was adopted that addressed all key challenges aligned with the company’s future growth plans. A modern, secure, and scalable AWS-based architecture was designed and implemented. The primary goal was to centralize management processes, increase traceability, and optimize infrastructure costs while maintaining high accessibility and security.
Legacy IT challenges were addressed using AWS Systems Manager Patch Manager. This allows patch management for both Windows and Linux workloads to be centrally managed and automated. Using comprehensive workload analysis, right-sizing strategies were implemented to ensure optimal scaling of EC2 instances. This resulted in improved performance and cost efficiency.
The database layer was migrated to Amazon RDS, which provides fully managed services for PostgreSQL. This migration eliminated the administrative burden of manual database management and provided automated backups, advanced failover capabilities, and enhanced data reliability.
For security and networking, a multi-AZ VPC architecture was designed to provide fault tolerance and redundancy. VPN connectivity was established to support secure internal communication between on-premises and cloud environments. Application Load Balancer (ALB) and Network Load Balancer (NLB) were also implemented to intelligently manage protocol-based traffic, effectively balance loads, and reduce latency.
A comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategy was developed and integrated using AWS Backup and Amazon S3, ensuring all critical workloads have automated, version-controlled backup policies. Amazon CloudWatch will collect and analyze system metrics and application logs to enhance monitoring. Alarms will be set based on this analysis for proactive incident response.
Finally, for additional performance and cost optimization, AWS Graviton-based instances were introduced for purpose-built workloads with enhanced price/performance ratios for compute-bound operations.
