Vuvy (Mynet Games), one of Türkiye’s fastest-growing gaming companies, needed advanced analytics, innovative software, and solutions to automate distribution procurement processes. To optimize infrastructure management and increase revenue, Vuvy partnered with Onkatec, an end-to-end DevOps and Cloud team built on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Onkatec’s infrastructure plan helped Vuvy accurately forecast its traffic, generate recommendations, and reduce reliance on manual planning. Thanks to AWS’s scalability and flexibility, Onkatec’s autonomous DevOps system processes and analyzes large amounts of data, helping Vuvy navigate high traffic volumes. Vuvy also improved database availability so it could focus on high-converting stores.
Vuvy Plans Migration to AWS for Availability and Performance
As online games gained popularity in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Turkey-based Vuvy saw a surge in demand for its services. Vuvy, which specializes in automated and AI-powered products like word games and board games for online web platforms, iOS apps, and Android apps, realized it needed to replace its existing hosting provider with a more robust and scalable option.
To this end, Vuvy began the process of migrating its infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The process included extensive testing to avoid potential interruptions in customer service. By partnering with Onkatec, an AWS Partner specializing in migration, DevOps, and digital customer experience consulting, the company successfully accelerated the migration process. Vuvy Chief Technology Officer Eren Göç praised Onkatec’s role, saying, “Thanks to Onkatec, we were able to accelerate our pace and initiate the migration process. This transition has been very beneficial for our business.”
After migrating to AWS, the company can now quickly deliver new features while maintaining high availability. With the assurance of a reliable and scalable infrastructure, the company is poised to expand its use of machine learning for enhanced customer experiences. With Vuvy currently boasting over 5 million unique users worldwide, continued growth will be more feasible and seamless.
Çanak Okey’s: A Successful AWS Migration Journey
The game “Çanak Okey,” which has been around for 15 years, underwent an evolutionary transformation by migrating to AWS. Despite challenges with physical servers, code modernization and Docker integration efforts transformed the game into a functional service in just 30 days. With final optimization and bug fixes, the project was ready in 45 days. While some issues were encountered during live user testing, they were corrected through rollbacks and rigorous reassessment.
The inclusion of mobile platforms triggered an internal stress testing setup. Using Unity and AWS, a “Çanak Ordu” system consisting of 3,000 simulated users was successfully stress-tested. Our services were configured to prevent congestion in web services and protect the Game Server. After the issues were resolved, the relaunch was carried out, with users experiencing uninterrupted continuity despite the challenges with the web service.
Despite all the challenges, the AWS migration resulted in a 60x performance increase in Aurora DB. Project optimization, cost management, and improved gameplay were the hallmarks of success. This 45-day journey served as an example of teamwork, problem-solving ability, and adaptability, strengthening future projects.
New System Built on AWS Accelerates Deployment and Streamlines Communication
Vuvy’s games and web portal were restructured, creating a new API-based system on AWS. But don’t worry; the existing databases weren’t lost. The existing databases were seamlessly migrated to Amazon Aurora via AWS DMS, increasing efficiency tenfold. The revision, which leverages Terraform, AWS Infrastructure as Code, alongside Jenkins, enabled continuous integration and delivery. This accelerated update deployment and resource provisioning, enabling multiple, staged deployments per day.
Enhanced Reliability Boosts Confidence in Testing New Features
After migrating to AWS, Vuvy’s previous infrastructure concerns disappeared. It can now focus on improving its existing infrastructure and delivering value faster. It has also gained confidence in expanding its use of services like machine learning. Eren Göç says that having a reliable cloud infrastructure allows Vuvy to take greater advantage of IaC and dynamic test environments on Kubernetes. “We can now set up dynamic environments in minutes and quickly roll out changes to market,” he says. “We’re happy with the result. It really works.”
